Entry No. 028 · The Mind
The Work Never Stops
A Backyard Brew Story
By Ryan Khalil (R.Solace) · April 15, 2026 · 3 min read

My boys,
Being alone
Is not a bad thing.
In fact—
It's one of the best things you can experience.
Different cultures have always understood this.
The Aboriginal people called it a walkabout—
A journey into yourself.
Others have called it a spiritual retreat, a vision quest, a pilgrimage, a time of seclusion for clarity.
Different names—
Same truth.
Time alone
Is where you meet yourself.
No distractions.
No noise.
No performance.
Just you.
Your thoughts.
Your truth.
And that's where real growth happens.
Because you're meant to self-regulate.
You're meant to reflect.
You're meant to have the hard conversations with yourself.
But today's world—
Makes it too easy to avoid that.
Too many distractions.
Too many escapes.
Too many ways to run from yourself.
So people stay busy—
But they never actually grow.
And here's the part most people don't understand—
You're always working.
Always.
Even when you think you're not.
People say—
"I can't wait for the weekend, I don't have work."
But that's not true.
You always have work.
Because even if you're not working for money…
You're working on yourself.
Every thought you entertain.
Every habit you repeat.
Every decision you make.
That's all work.
And it's shaping you into who you're becoming.
So the question is—
Are you doing that work intentionally?
Or by default?
And here's something else you need to understand—
A lot of people expect others
To be the best version of themselves…
For them.
But they won't do the same in return.
That's selfish.
If you want greatness around you—
You have to become it first.
You have to raise your own standard before you expect it from others.
So use your time alone.
Don't fear it.
Don't run from it.
Lean into it.
Because that's where you build yourself.
Quietly.
Honestly.
Fully.
And when you come back to the world—
You don't come back empty.
You come back stronger.
Clearer.
Better.
I promise you that.
I love you.
— Baba
Moral of the story: You are always working—either on purpose or by default. Choose to build yourself.
Question for you: When you're alone… are you escaping yourself or becoming someone better?
