Entry No. 174 · The Build
The Unremarkable Tuesday
A Backyard Brew Story
By Ryan Khalil (R.Solace) · September 8, 2026 · 6 min read

My boys,
4:30 AM.
The alarm rings.
I turn it off.
Feet on the floor.
Nothing inspiring happens.
I shower.
I pray.
The house is dark.
5:10 AM.
Workout.
Same movements.
Same weights.
Some feel heavier than they did yesterday.
I finish anyway.
5:55 AM.
Another shower.
Clean clothes.
Coffee.
I stand in the kitchen for a minute while it brews.
6:15 AM.
Work begins.
Messages.
Numbers.
Something needs to be ordered.
Something else was ordered incorrectly.
A problem that should have taken five minutes takes twenty.
7:00 AM.
The boys are moving around the house.
Breakfast.
Shoes.
Backpacks.
Someone needs help finding something.
It is exactly where I said it was.
7:45 AM.
Out the door.
8:10 AM.
Back to work.
A list I wrote yesterday is still mostly a list.
I start at the top.
9:00 AM.
A conversation.
Then another.
One is useful.
One probably could have been an email.
10:30 AM.
Coffee.
Not ceremonial.
Not photographed.
Not some beautiful moment of reflection.
Just coffee because I want coffee.
11:15 AM.
A small problem gets fixed.
Nobody notices.
12:30 PM.
Lunch.
I eat while thinking about something else.
I remind myself not to do that tomorrow.
1:00 PM.
More work.
A decision.
A spreadsheet.
A phone call.
An idea gets written down.
It is probably either very good or very stupid.
Too early to know.
2:45 PM.
Energy drops.
The work does not care.
I keep going.
3:30 PM.
Something I expected to finish today will not be finished today.
Move it to tomorrow.
4:10 PM.
Another coffee would be a bad idea.
I consider it anyway.
I don't.
5:00 PM.
A few loose ends.
There are always loose ends.
5:45 PM.
Close the laptop.
Not because everything is finished.
Because work is capable of consuming every hour you offer it.
6:00 PM.
Home.
The boys tell me things.
One story takes much longer than the event it describes.
I listen.
Mostly.
I catch myself drifting once.
Come back.
7:00 PM.
Dinner.
Dishes.
A little noise.
A little arguing.
A little laughing.
Nothing worth writing down.
8:00 PM.
The house begins getting quieter.
Brush teeth.
Water.
One more question.
One more request.
Goodnight.
8:40 PM.
I pick something up from the floor that I have already picked up twice today.
9:00 PM.
I look around.
No breakthrough.
No enormous deal closed.
No life-changing phone call.
No applause.
No revelation.
No story anyone would ask me to tell at dinner twenty years from now.
Just Tuesday.
Then I realize something.
I prayed.
I trained.
I worked.
I solved what I could.
I came home.
I listened.
I fed my family.
I kissed my boys goodnight.
I kept a few promises nobody was checking.
Maybe an ordinary day is not the space between the important ones.
Maybe this was the important one.
I love you.
— Baba
Question:
If nothing extraordinary happened today, did you still live it well?
Moral:
A life is not built from its exceptional days. It is built from ordinary Tuesdays repeated with faith, attention, discipline, and love.
