The Storm Means You're Climbing
A Backyard Brew Story
By Ryan Khalil (R.Solace) · May 26, 2026 · 5 min read

My boys,
There's something I wish someone had told me when I was younger— The harder you work on yourself… The more resistance you may encounter.
At first, this feels unfair.
You begin improving your habits. Resistance appears.
You become more disciplined. Resistance appears.
You become more self-aware. Resistance appears.
You become more honest. Resistance appears.
You begin taking accountability for your life. And somehow… Resistance appears again.
When I was younger, I thought becoming better would make life easier.
Now I believe becoming better often makes life clearer.
And clarity reveals battles that were already there.
My boys…
The storm is not always proof you are lost.
Sometimes the storm is proof you are climbing.
Think about a mountain.
The higher you go… The stronger the wind becomes.
Not because the mountain hates you.
Because elevation changes conditions.
The same thing happens in life.
The moment you decide to improve yourself… You separate yourself from old habits. Old patterns. Old thinking. Old comforts.
And suddenly the world begins testing your commitment.
"Are you serious?" "Will you continue?" "Will you remain disciplined when nobody applauds?" "Will you remain kind when kindness is not returned?" "Will you stay honest when dishonesty appears easier?"
These are the questions hidden inside the storm.
I've come to realize something important—
Most people are not stopped by failure.
They are stopped by discomfort.
The moment life becomes difficult… They retreat.
The moment pressure arrives… They abandon the mission.
The moment loneliness appears… They return to familiarity.
But growth does not happen inside familiarity.
Growth happens where uncertainty lives.
My boys…
There may come moments where you look around and feel completely alone.
You may feel as if nobody understands what you're carrying.
Nobody understands your struggle.
Nobody understands your test.
Nobody understands the pressure.
And perhaps they don't.
That is okay.
Not every test was designed for everyone.
Some were designed specifically for you.
This is something I have spent a lot of time thinking about.
What if the test isn't punishment?
What if the test is instruction?
What if the challenge is not there to break you… But to reveal something you have not yet learned?
Because life has a strange pattern.
The lesson often repeats.
Again.
And again.
And again.
Until awareness arrives.
Different faces. Same lesson.
Different circumstances. Same lesson.
Different year. Same lesson.
Life keeps presenting the opportunity… Until understanding finally appears.
My boys…
Become aware.
Pay attention.
Observe the patterns.
Ask yourself: "What keeps repeating?" "What lesson am I avoiding?" "What is life attempting to teach me?"
Because awareness shortens unnecessary suffering.
An unconscious person repeats cycles.
An aware person breaks them.
This is why vigilance matters.
But not the vigilance of fear.
The vigilance of elegance.
There is a difference.
Fear constantly looks for danger. Elegance looks for understanding.
Fear becomes paranoid. Elegance becomes observant.
Fear contracts. Elegance expands awareness.
I want you to become elegant observers of life.
Notice patterns.
Notice habits.
Notice reactions.
Notice recurring tests.
Notice what continuously appears.
Because hidden inside repetition… Is often instruction.
And hidden inside instruction… Is transformation.
My boys…
Do not become frightened when storms arrive.
Do not immediately assume something is wrong.
Sometimes the storm is simply asking: "Have you learned yet?"
And when you finally learn… The lesson changes. The level changes. The challenge changes. The person changes.
You change.
Remember— The goal is not to avoid every storm.
The goal is to become someone capable of walking through them.
Gracefully. Wisely. Steadily.
Because strength is not the absence of pressure.
Strength is composure within pressure.
And composure is earned.
So when life comes at you… Stand tall. Stay aware. Remain curious. Study the lesson.
And trust that if this challenge was placed before you… You possess the capacity to grow through it.
The storm is not your enemy.
Sometimes… It is your teacher.
I love you.
— Baba
Question: What challenge keeps repeating itself in your life, and what lesson might it be trying to teach you that you have not fully understood yet?
Moral: Life often repeats lessons until awareness develops. The storm is not always punishment; sometimes it is instruction disguised as resistance.
