The Road Begins Again
A Backyard Brew Story
By Ryan Khalil (R.Solace) · August 16, 2026 · 6 min read

My boys,
There is something beautiful about finishing a long journey.
There is something even more beautiful about realizing it was only preparing you for the next one.
For many mornings now, we have spoken about the kind of man I hope you become.
About patience.
About silence.
About trust.
About courage.
About mercy.
About faithfulness.
About legacy.
Those were never destinations.
They were provisions for the road ahead.
Life has taught me that wisdom is not collected so it can sit quietly upon a shelf.
Wisdom is meant to be carried.
Scuffed.
Tested.
Shared.
The older I become...
The more I realize that life rarely asks whether we remember the lesson.
It asks whether we are living it.
Character is not measured in journals.
It is measured on ordinary Tuesdays.
In traffic.
Around dinner tables.
During difficult conversations.
Inside empty workshops before the lights come on.
In the quiet moments when no one is watching but God.
I have learned that every sunrise is an invitation.
Not to become someone different.
But to become more fully who God has already been shaping you to be.
We spend so much of our lives waiting for life to begin.
After school.
After marriage.
After children.
After success.
After retirement.
One day we wake up and realize...
Life was happening while we were waiting.
Do not make that mistake.
Do not postpone joy.
Do not postpone kindness.
Do not postpone forgiveness.
Do not postpone calling your parents.
Do not postpone telling your children you love them.
Tomorrow has never been promised.
Today already has.
It is sitting quietly in your hands.
I have also discovered that roads are honest.
They do not care how wealthy you are.
Or how admired.
Or how intelligent.
Every traveler eventually becomes tired.
Every traveler eventually gets lost.
Every traveler eventually needs grace.
That is why I no longer admire people who pretend they have all the answers.
I admire those who continue walking with humility.
Who continue asking questions.
Who continue letting God shape them.
There is freedom in admitting...
"I am still becoming."
Because we all are.
Even now.
Even after everything life has taught me...
God is still teaching me.
Still sanding rough edges.
Still reminding me to slow down.
Still showing me beauty I overlooked yesterday.
That may be one of His greatest gifts.
He never finishes with us until He calls us home.
So neither should we.
From this day forward...
Our conversations may wander.
Some mornings we'll speak about coffee.
Some about fathers.
Some about failure.
Some about beauty.
Some about grief.
Some about business.
Some about children.
Some about the strange little moments that somehow become the ones we remember forever.
Because that is life.
And life, when lived with God, has a remarkable way of making ordinary moments feel eternal.
So come.
The road is waiting.
Not because we have finished learning.
Because learning has only just begun.
Walk slowly.
Notice everything.
Carry gratitude.
Leave kindness.
Trust God.
And wherever this road eventually leads...
May you arrive with a softer heart than the one you left with.
That, I think, is a life well lived.
I love you.
— Baba
Question:
If today was not another day to endure, but another page God was inviting you to write, how differently would you live it?
Moral:
The greatest lessons are never meant to remain in journals. They are meant to become the quiet rhythm of an ordinary life lived faithfully with God.
