There comes a moment in every man's life...

When he reaches the edge of what he can control.

No amount of planning can change tomorrow.

No amount of worrying can add another sunrise.

No amount of strength can force God's timing.

Life has taught me that control is often an illusion.

Stewardship is not.

There is a difference.

A gentleman works with all his heart.

He prepares.

He plans.

He builds.

He keeps his word.

But once he has done what is his to do...

He quietly places the outcome into God's hands.

That is trust.

I used to believe trust was something you felt.

Now I know it is something you choose.

Especially on the days when nothing makes sense.

Especially when prayers seem unanswered.

Especially when the road disappears into fog.

Faith is not believing that life will always unfold according to your plans.

Faith is believing that God remains faithful even when your plans unfold differently.

The older I become...

The more I realize that God has protected me from countless things I once begged Him to allow.

At the time...

I called them disappointments.

Years later...

I called them blessings.

Perspective has a remarkable way of revealing His fingerprints.

I have learned that trust grows slowly.

Like the roots of an old oak tree.

No one applauds roots.

No one photographs them.

Yet they are the reason the tree still stands after the storm has passed.

Our faith is much the same.

The deepest work God does in us is often invisible.

While everyone else is admiring the branches...

He is strengthening the roots.

Do not become discouraged when nothing appears to be happening.

Growth beneath the surface is still growth.

I have also discovered that trust is not passive.

It is active obedience.

It means continuing to do what is right...

Even when you cannot yet see the harvest.

Plant the seed.

Water the soil.

Pull the weeds.

Then wait.

Impatience digs up what trust has just planted.

A gentleman understands that waiting is not wasted time.

Waiting is where character matures.

Where pride softens.

Where dependence deepens.

Where peace quietly takes the place of panic.

Some of the greatest gifts in my life arrived only after I stopped trying to force them.

Not because I gave up.

Because I surrendered.

There is a beautiful difference.

Giving up says,

"There is no hope."

Surrender says,

"There is a God."

That truth has carried me through more seasons than I can count.

One day you will find yourself standing before a closed door.

Do not assume God has forgotten you.

He may simply be building something behind another one.

Trust Him there.

One day you will pray for something with all your heart...

And Heaven will remain quiet.

Trust Him there.

One day your strength will feel small.

Your understanding incomplete.

Your future uncertain.

Trust Him there.

Not because life is predictable.

But because God is faithful.

The world tells us that certainty creates peace.

Life has taught me something different.

Trust creates peace.

Because peace was never found in knowing what comes next.

It is found in knowing Who walks beside you.

So do your work.

Love your family.

Keep your promises.

Pray with sincerity.

Walk with integrity.

Then release what was never yours to carry alone.

God has never asked you to hold tomorrow.

He has only asked you to be faithful today.

That has always been enough.
