The Gentleman's Code: To God — The Code, a Backyard Brew story by R.Solace (Ryan Khalil)

My boys,

Before a man learns to lead himself…

Before he leads a family…

Before he builds a business…

Before he earns respect…

He must first learn to kneel.

Life has taught me that every worthwhile thing I have ever built began only after I understood that I was never building alone.

There is a dangerous illusion that whispers into every man's heart.

It says,

"You are self-made."

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Every breath I take has been given to me.

Every sunrise I witness is a gift.

Every opportunity I receive is a blessing.

Every lesson I learn is another act of God's patience.

The older I become, the less impressed I am by independence.

And the more grateful I become for dependence upon God.

There is tremendous freedom in realizing that I do not have to carry the weight of the entire world upon my shoulders.

Because it was never mine to carry.

That does not remove responsibility.

It simply reminds me who ultimately remains in control.

I have discovered that prayer is not merely asking God to bless my plans.

It is asking Him to transform them.

Sometimes the answer is yes.

Sometimes it is no.

Sometimes it is wait.

Learning to accept all three has become one of the greatest disciplines of my life.

Faith is not believing that God will always give me what I want.

Faith is trusting that He already knows what I need.

That trust changes everything.

It changes how I approach success.

It changes how I endure failure.

It changes how I respond to uncertainty.

It changes how I love others.

Because when God becomes my foundation, circumstances lose the power to define me.

Humility has become one of the greatest gifts God continues teaching me.

Every achievement reminds me to give thanks instead of taking credit.

Every failure reminds me to seek wisdom instead of making excuses.

Every blessing reminds me to become more generous instead of more entitled.

Everything I have is ultimately on loan.

My time.

My family.

My talents.

My health.

My work.

Even this very life.

None of it truly belongs to me.

I am simply its steward for a little while.

That realization has brought me tremendous peace.

Because stewardship asks only one question.

"Have you been faithful?"

Not famous.

Not wealthy.

Not admired.

Faithful.

The world often asks men to prove themselves.

God asks us to surrender ourselves.

Those are two very different paths.

One feeds the ego.

The other transforms the soul.

I have learned that the strongest men I know are not those who never bow.

They are the ones who know exactly before whom they bow.

There is incredible strength in submission to God.

Not because it makes a man smaller.

Because it frees him from pretending he is greater than he is.

One day every title will disappear.

Every accomplishment will fade.

Every possession will belong to someone else.

Only one relationship will remain eternal.

My relationship with God.

That is why I have come to believe that every gentleman should begin here.

Not with ambition.

Not with reputation.

Not with success.

With reverence.

Because every other code that follows finds its meaning here.

Honor God before yourself.

Seek His wisdom before your own.

Choose His truth over popular opinion.

Trust His timing over your impatience.

Serve His people before serving your ego.

And when you fail…

Return to Him.

Again.

And again.

And again.

His grace is greater than your mistakes.

His mercy is deeper than your failures.

His love is steadier than your fears.

Build your life upon God, and every other foundation becomes stronger.

Ignore Him, and eventually every other foundation begins to crack.

A gentleman's first code is not about becoming an extraordinary man.

It is about faithfully walking with an extraordinary God.

Everything else is built from there.

I love you.

— Baba

The Gentleman's Code — To God

  • Put God before every other priority.
  • Pray before you presume.
  • Seek God's wisdom before your own understanding.
  • Live as a steward, not an owner.
  • Remain humble in success and faithful in failure.
  • Trust God's timing over your own.
  • Let your character reflect your faith.
  • Return to God daily, especially when you fall.
  • Worship the Creator, never the creation.
  • Build every part of your life upon Him.

Question:

If someone watched the way you lived every day, would they know that God is truly first in your life?

Moral:

A gentleman's greatest strength is not found in self-reliance, but in faithfully placing God first. Every other virtue finds its foundation there.
