Grow Something — The Long Game, a Backyard Brew story by R.Solace (Ryan Khalil)

Everyone should grow a fruit tree from seed.

Not buy one. Not shortcut it.

Grow it.

Start from nothing.

Because something happens to you when you take care of something that won't give you anything back… for a long time.

I learned this in Palo Alto, California.

I planted 20 loquat seeds.

Out of those 20— only 3 sprouted.

And out of those 3— only 1 actually took off.

The other two stayed small. Stunted. They never really became what they could have been.

But that one—

That one kept going.

Day after day. Month after month. Year after year.

No fruit. No reward. No proof that it was "working."

Just growth you couldn't fully see.

It took almost 4 years before I tasted anything from it.

Almost 4 years… for one piece of fruit.

And when it finally came—

It meant something.

Because I knew what it took.

Watering it. Watching it. Protecting it. Believing in it when there was nothing to show for it.

That tree taught me something I wish more people understood—

The things that last take time.

Real time.

The kind of time most people aren't willing to give anymore.

We live in a world where everything is instant.

But nothing meaningful is.

Strong roots don't grow fast.

They grow deep.

And depth… requires patience.

At Backyard Brew, we think about this a lot.

Because what we're building isn't meant to be quick.

It's meant to last.

Every drink. Every system. Every relationship.

We're growing something.

And like anything worth keeping—

It takes time.

So if there's one thing I'd tell you—

Grow something.

From seed.

And stay with it long enough to understand what patience actually feels like.

Moral of the story: Anything worth having takes time—and time builds roots.

Question for you: Are you planting things in your life… or just looking for something already grown?
