A Short Note on Noticing — The Mind, a Backyard Brew story by R.Solace (Ryan Khalil)

My boys,

There was one red leaf on the windshield this morning.

That is the whole story.

I came outside early.

The car was wet with dew.

The air had that October cold that makes you notice your first breath.

And there it was.

One small red leaf.

Perfectly centered on the glass.

I almost brushed it away.

I had somewhere to be.

Instead, I stood there for a few seconds.

The veins were darker than the rest of it.

One edge had begun to curl.

A bead of water sat near the stem.

The morning sun reached it just enough to make the red brighter.

Nothing profound happened.

God did not send me an explanation.

The leaf did not become a metaphor while I stood there.

It was simply beautiful.

And I almost missed it.

That has been bothering me all day.

Not because of the leaf.

Because I wonder how much of my life has been that small.

That available.

That easy to walk past.

You do not need a remarkable life to experience wonder.

You need to notice the one you already have.

I love you.

— Baba
